About Kyrgyzstan
Kyrgyzstan is located in Central Asia, bordering Kazakhstan to the north, China to the south, and Tajikistan and Uzbekistan to the west.Kyrgyzstan is one of the few democratic countries in Central Asia. Entry from Germany is easy, all you need is a valid passport.
The largest part of the population are Kyrgyz (approx. 65%), the rest are shared by Uzbeks, Russians and an estimated 12,000 ethnic Germans who live in villages such as Luxemburg and Bergtal. The Kyrgyz are a Turkic people, so Kyrgyz is very similar to the Turkish language.
Kyrgyzstan is located in the Tien Shan Mountains, the highest elevations of which reach 7,439 m. 95% of the country consists of mountains. The rare snow leopards and Marco Polo sheep live there. But you also encounter wolves, bears and marmots again and again.
Most of the Kyrgyz are nomads. They live from animal husbandry. They mainly breed sheep, goats and horses. Kumys (fermented mare’s milk) is part of the local diet and is very healthy.
The official language is Kyrgyz and Russian. The English language is gaining ground, especially among young, Western-oriented Kyrgyz.
